It used to be just around the corner - now it's just minutes away. But when these JW's go home, and they talk about it for a day - it will be forgotten. It's like a short term memory loss. Next time they hear it, it will be "new" again.

What your first realization of hypocrisy in this Religion?
by days of future passed inmy mother became a witness when i was five and i believed that every witness followed what was said at the meetings and the instructions given.
my naive belief carried on until maybe i was 10?
at the old conventions, volunteers would come early and pack fruit into net bags so that it could be sold at lunch.

My mother became a witness when I was five and I believed that every witness followed what was said at the meetings and the instructions given. My naive belief carried on until maybe I was 10? or so.
At the old conventions, volunteers would come early and pack fruit into net bags so that it could be sold at lunch. My mother volunteered us to do it. (don't ask me how she got us there that early) So we put grapes, nectarines, apples and bananas in the bag for maybe an hour and then came time for the doors to open at the venue for seating. I was so excited for this because I had always seen the seats with the extra 3' foot space that ringed the facility but had never been early enough to be able to sit in them. So we stood in a crowd in front of the doors. A brother with a serious face, gave a speech about how we should not run, save seats for others etc. because we would want to be christ like and think of others.
Doors open. Young brothers ran like crazy towards those seats and threw blankets everywhere. I was shocked.
Afterwards, I looked at the "brothers and sisters" who sat in them, piously reading the bible and taking notes. I never looked at those setting in the seats as anything other than hypocrites after that.
The other thing was just maybe 10 years ago when I still attended conventions. We were assigned to clean some interior offices in the venue. In my mind, as JW's you trusted people. (yes naive again) So it was rather shocking to see this rather menacing "brother" standing in the middle of the room with his hands clasped in front of him, staring at us like we were going to rob the bank. Maybe he was a cop for hire I don't know but it added an element that seemed foreign. It was just unsettling to me because it was implying that I was untrustworthy.
What did you run into that revealed all wasn't as it should be? I would imagine a person converted later in life wouldn't see the same things to the degree a born in would, but it would be interesting to hear about it.

They consider most ex jw's as a part of Satan's crowd and therefore beyond help. Naive relatives however, are fair game and the WT encourages JW's to try to convert them.
Several years ago the WT warned the regular JW's not to call people "goats" if they didn't take the magazines. But the reason they do judge people is because they have been taught to by the WT itself.

Number 16 is funny. Those poor early JW's carting around how many of those bound volumes to people on a "donation" basis. Now days they don't "sell" tracts - just kingdom halls.

Climate Change - True Believer or Skeptic?
by Simon inclimate change ... who doesn't believe it?
crazy fools and science deniers ... right?.
it seems like it's become the new religion, the new orthodoxy, that must be accepted and believed as gospel and preached to all.. is it ok to be skeptical?.

LoveUnni - Volcanoes affect the earth when they spew ash and gases. The fine ash can circle around the earth for several months affecting weather. Are you saying the chemicals and pollutants from factories don't have an effect? I'm not talking extremes but certainly they do something to the earth.

The Organizations obsession with image.
by BourneIdentity inas we all know, the highest priority or concern in the religion isn’t about adhering to god’s word or obeying jehovah and jesus, but rather the image of the organization and all its members.
just yesterday there was a talk where the brother stated how important it is to keep our homes clean, yards free of junk piling up and cars clean, because it could possibly detract from the message.
besides those things he mentioned, they want all males to never grow a beard or goatee.

Long time ago, there was an article about Gluttony. A sister in my hall, she was funny and nice and overweight. That article made her feel bad because she recognized that being overweight made her a glutton. But I wouldn't say she sat around eating. She wasn't tremendously big either.
Then you see the heavy weight GB's. They look like their suits are just barely fitting them. What really gets me is the picture that was in a WT, that showed a little skinny old sister with two tupperware containers in her fridge, being encouraged to donate what little money she had, to the big greedy GB. They are the pigs in Animal farm indeed.

A possible move?
by careful inin the second section (money stuff) of this morning's usa today newspaper (print copy p. 5b) there is one of those legal notices that groups put up in order to announce things and set deadlines.
this one is from the santa fe, new mexico archdiocese, mandated by the us bankruptcy court.
it's notification that people who were sexually abused by rc priests have until june 17 to file their claims.. this got me wondering.

If they did, they'd have to put a mighty spin on it. They'd have to ride hard, "the imperfect man" scenario and hope that the old ones would still cling to them and count on a kind of "whatever" from the new ones.
The Catholic church survived because they are a "tradition" and institution in more peoples lives. Is the JW religion that much that it could survive?
Before they do any admitting, I think they would be busy transferring monies into other places so they could hold their hands out and say "we don't have any money to pay out"

When I was growing up, winters were wet, spring sprinkles with some sunny days, summer hot and and sunny, fall cooler with the leaves falling. It was a regular pattern.
Now days, winter, spring, fall, summer happen at any time. A few days of winter, followed by summer and then it's fall and spring - and that happens in a two week period. Possibly summer is the longest that remains the same.
This is in California from the 1960's (regular) to maybe 1980"s (?) Because it started being bits and pieces around then and now, yeah it's all over the place.
Sadly, I've read that the emperor's penguin nursery on a large ice shelf, has disappeared, drowning the chicks.
